LOW VISION WITH NO TRANSPORTATION

Postby NAG1972 on Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:23 am

I am married to a totally disabled Veteran, but that is not my concern. My best friend was a very active person in the work force, but through complications she now is diagnosed with LOW VISION. With that there isn't any transportation even if she could get a job at minimum salary. She has a computer and is learning it with what help I can offer. She has gone through the Lighthouse for the Blind, she has Zoom-tech, but no job. Most of the reason is "our software isn't compatable" with Zoom-tech. Blind services said they would offer anything necessary for work at home. Her typing isn't the best speed. She is a lovely attitude person who shows when talking on the phone. She was the manager of the Deli Department of a Major Grocery Chain. I don't know if it makes a difference but she lives in Hillsborough County but a few miles from Polk County.

Does ANY ONE have any suggestions?! I've tried to get her to go to college, but like me it's been a long time since high school and college isn't free. I told her about grants and that with her health and lowvision, she would/could possibly get many grants. I thought Billing and Coding would be something that she could do since the medical field won't be disappearing anytime soon. She has a loss of income because her daughter turned of age.
